This week's Torah Portion, Bo, contains the first mitzvah that G-d gave the Jewish people: the commandment to formally proclaim the New Moon. This marks the beginning of a new month.
- The Jewish people are compared to the moon. The moon becomes dim and grows bright again. So do the Jewish people.
 - The first day of every month is called Rosh Chodesh. It's a special holiday just for women.
